Bible Verse: When Jesus saw him lying there, knowing that he had already been there a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?” John 5:6

Reflection:

"Do you want to get well?"  When I read where Jesus saw the sick man and asked him this simple question it prompted me to think of what I would have asked: "How can I help you?" "What do you need?" "Can I contact someone for you?

"Do you want to get well?" would not have been top of mind.  In fact, to me it seems like a rhetorical question but Jesus gave the man an opportunity to make a choice.  Then I got to thinking about how this approach would apply today, particularly with individuals who don't know Jesus.  They may be like I was once, a lost soul trying to do it all on my own and failing miserably.  I wonder how one would respond if asked a question similar to "Do you want to get well?": "Do you need another option?" "Do you want to know how I make sense of it all?"

Something to think about.  No doubt I will be presented with this scenario very soon and I thank God I will be prepared!
