Get to Know Your Bible

This is a three-part email series to help parents introduce their kids to their new Bible.

Week 1

Dear Parents,

It was a joy to present your children with their very own Bible this past Sunday!

You might be wondering, “Great! Now what?” The Bible can feel overwhelming, both for kids and adults, which means it could easily end up on a shelf. But don’t worry—this Bible has simple guides to help your child feel confident and excited about reading.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll send three emails with simple, practical activities you can do side-by-side with your child to help them get comfortable using their Bible.

Week 1:

  • Time: This activity will take about 5 minutes and could be done at dinner or bedtime.
  • Page: 1108
  • Read Aloud: Have either you or your child read Matthew 28:16-20.
  • Discussion: After reading, check out the “God’s Thoughts/My Thoughts” section at the bottom of the page. This section includes reflection questions to help kids connect with the passage. There are two questions you can ask your child. Bonus: Share your answers too—it’s a great way to model reflection and conversation!

Bring Their Bible on Sunday:

Encourage your child to bring their Bible to church this Sunday. They’ll be using it in their Children’s Ministry class.

Week 2

Dear Parents,

This week I invite you and your child to memorize Psalm 119:105, on page 697.

“Your word is a lamp before my feet and a light for my journey.”

Memorizing scripture is a powerful way for children to be guided by God’s word in all they do. Psalm 119:105 reminds us that scripture is a guide on the journey of life.

How You Can Help:

  • Practice Together: Take a few moments each day to recite the verse with your child, perhaps during the drive to school or right before bed.
  • Reflect on Its Meaning: Talk with your child about what it means to have God’s Word guide us in life. You might share a time when you felt God’s guidance in a personal way.
  • Celebrate: At the end of the week, once they’ve memorized the verse, treat them to an ice cream cone! Use the time together to talk about how God guided them this week.

Bible Tip: Your child’s new Bible has in-text notes (like the compass on today’s pages) to help them learn as they read.

Week 3

Dear Parents,

Welcome to our final email in this series! This week, I invite you and your child to read Mark 3:13-19 together on page 1112. Then, look to the next page and explore the God’s Thoughts, My Thoughts section. It focuses on the theme of “team” and encourages your child to ponder what it means to be part of God’s team!

Kid’s Ask BIG Questions:

In the front of your child’s Bible are resources to help with some of those questions.

  • What is the Bible, and Who wrote it? – page vii
  • Where should I begin reading? – page xi
