Bible Verse: I assure you that whoever hears my word and believes in the one who sent me has eternal life and won’t come under judgment but has passed from death into life. John 5:24

Reflection: Jesus emphasizes “hearing” and “believing.” Often times, when I share some really good and exciting news with someone they will respond, “that’s unbelievable!” That response can mean one of two things;

  1. Not able to be believed, unlikely to be true. (or)
  2. So extraordinary that it’s hard to imagine it could happen.

Jesus invites us to hear the good news of eternal life, and believe in the One who sent Him. I often think of that as moving from #1 (unbelief) to #2 (belief). But, Lent is a season that reminds me that when life is hard, belief is hard too. It takes significant energy and faith to hold onto hope in the desert! Hear the good news, God send Jesus to offer eternal life, and we receive that through belief. Just because at times we struggle to hold on to hope, does not mean we don’t believe. Sometimes, expressing our doubt to God is itself, and act of faith.

A Blessing for You:
Whatever wilderness the Spirit has brought you to:
Walk in boldness, as a beloved child of God
Walk in peace, under the shelter of the Most High
Walk in faith, knowing Christ walks with you. Amen!
