Bible Verse: “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.  John 10:11

Reflection: During lent, there is A LOT we can unpack in this verse. I’m guessing entire seminary dissertations have been written on this verse. For me, this first thing that comes to mind is that Jesus is foreshadowing his death on the cross and providing us with an analogy that reveals God’s selfless and eternal love for his children. However, I also see it as a challenge to us modern day Christians.

As disciples that seek to mirror Jesus’ behavior, I believe this verse calls us to lay down our lives, both figuratively and literally, protecting and caring for others. In many ways, it’s the crux of our beliefs as Christians; it’s how we should live our lives. But, I think we can all admit that this is an overwhelming task and not always clear in our daily lives. We must ask God for help deciphering this.

During this lent season, I challenge all of us at Citrus Church to find a serene space and ask God to reveal answers to the following questions:

  1. Where in my life can I do more to assist and protect others?
  2. Where in my life am I holding on to selfish tendencies?
  3. How do I lay down my life in my day-to-day interactions?

As God guides our soul toward these answers, I challenge all of us to meet them with enthusiasm, gratefulness, and love
